Latvia solar farm: Impressive 145-MW Project Complete

Completion of the Grobina Latvia solar farm

Ignitis Group, through its subsidiary Ignitis Renewables, has begun commercial operations at the Grobina solar farm in Latvia. The company announced on Thursday that the 145-MW solar farm is now operational and connected to the grid.

Construction of the Grobina solar farm began in March, with the first section connected to the grid in May. The project features over 264,000 solar panels and was completed ahead of schedule. This achievement is particularly noteworthy considering the tight construction timeline.

Ignitis Renewables’ head of solar, Andrius Rushkus, noted that although the construction timeline was tight, the project was completed ahead of schedule. He highlighted that the success was due to meticulous preparation and the expertise of their team and partners.

“The construction timeline of the project was tight, but the project was completed ahead of schedule due to thorough preparation and the expertise of our team and partners,” said Andrius Rushkus, Head of Solar at Ignitis Renewables.

Partnerships and Future Plans for the Latvia solar farm

Ignitis Renewables partnered with the Lithuanian company Siauliu Energetikos Statyba for the construction. The project aligns with the company’s strategy to expand its renewable energy capacity across the Baltic region. This solar farm significantly adds to Ignitis Renewables’ growing portfolio of renewable energy projects, which include wind farms and other solar installations.

Ignitis Renewables is also working on other significant projects in the Baltic region. The company plans to construct additional solar farms in Latvia and Lithuania, aiming to increase its renewable energy capacity to 4 GW by 2028. This expansion will help meet the growing demand for clean energy and support the region’s transition to a more sustainable energy system. According to Latvia Solar Panel Manufacturing | Market Insights Report, the overall solar energy market in Latvia is projected to generate 10.38 million kWh in 2024, highlighting the increasing importance of solar energy in the region.

The Grobina solar farm is expected to generate around 150 GWh of electricity annually. This output will help meet the growing demand for clean energy in Latvia and support the country’s efforts to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels. The solar farm’s output will be sold through power purchase agreements, ensuring a stable revenue stream for Ignitis Renewables.

Ignitis Group’s Commitment to Renewable Energy and the Latvia solar farm

Ignitis Renewables is a subsidiary of Ignitis Group, a leading energy company in the Baltic region. The company focuses on developing and operating renewable energy projects, including wind, solar, and bioenergy. With the completion of the Grobina solar farm, Ignitis Renewables has strengthened its position as a key player in the Baltic renewable energy market.

The success of the Grobina solar farm is a significant milestone for Ignitis Renewables and the Latvian renewable energy sector. The project demonstrates the company’s ability to deliver large-scale renewable energy projects on time and within budget. This is particularly important as Latvia aims to increase its solar energy production; recent data indicates solar energy generation tripled last year in Latvia.

Looking ahead, Ignitis Renewables plans to continue expanding its renewable energy portfolio. The company has several other solar and wind projects in the pipeline, both in Latvia and across the Baltic region. As the demand for clean energy continues to grow, Ignitis Renewables aims to play a key role in the region’s transition to a more sustainable energy system.
