Latvia solar project: Impressive 120.8 MW Launch

Lithuania’s Green Genius Activates 120.8 MW Solar Project in Latvia

In a significant step forward for renewable energy in the Baltic region, Lithuanian-based Green Genius has officially activated a massive 120.8 MW solar project in Latvia. This new facility is not just another power plant; it stands as the largest single-site solar array in the Baltics to date, marking a major milestone in the area’s transition to clean energy.

A Landmark Latvia solar project for the Baltics

The launch of the 120.8 MW solar park by Green Genius earlier this month represents a substantial boost to Latvia’s domestic energy production. This single project is a powerful demonstration of the scaling potential for solar power and highlights the growing cross-border investment in green infrastructure within the Baltic states.

Powering Latvia’s Solar Boom with this Latvia solar project

The Green Genius project is a key contributor to Latvia’s impressive solar energy growth. The nation has been rapidly expanding its photovoltaic (PV) capacity, adding a significant 258 MW in 2025. This followed a record-breaking year in 2024, which saw 356 MW of new solar capacity installed.

By the end of 2025, Latvia’s cumulative solar capacity reached 920 MW, comprising 710 MW from large-scale power plants and 210 MW from smaller microgenerators. According to Gatis Macāns, Executive Director of the Latvian Renewable Energy Alliance, the total capacity likely surpassed the 1 GW mark in early 2026, factoring in projects that were still in the commissioning phase.

The momentum in 2025 was driven by numerous installations, including 484 solar power plants connected to the distribution grid, which accounted for 243 MW of the year’s total. Among these was another notable project by Lithuania’s Ignitis Renewables, a 94 MW site, further underscoring the strong regional interest in Latvia’s solar market.

A Bright Future for Latvian Solar thanks to this Latvia solar project

The outlook for Latvia’s solar sector remains exceptionally positive. Experts forecast that approximately 500 MW of new capacity from large-scale projects will be added in 2026 alone. This rapid pace of development could see Latvia surpass its end-of-decade target of 1.3 GW years ahead of schedule.

This growth is supported by proactive government policy. In February 2026, Latvia’s Ministry of Climate and Energy approved a €26.8 million grant program. This initiative is designed to encourage the adoption of solar panels, battery storage systems, and heat pumps for residents, local governments, and state agencies, further fueling the country’s green transition.

The activation of the Green Genius solar park is more than just a corporate achievement; it is a clear signal of Latvia’s emergence as a key player in the European solar landscape, driving towards greater energy independence and a sustainable future.
