Malaikah Energy Group Announces Groundbreaking Power Project in Liberia
Malaikah Energy Group, a prominent multinational energy company, has unveiled plans for an ambitious power project in Liberia. This venture will dramatically enhance the nation’s energy capabilities, generating an impressive 950 megawatts (MW) of electricity.
Liberia power project to generate 950MW of electricity
Expected to be completed within 18 months, this transformative project will substantially boost Liberia’s energy capacity. It will also establish Liberia as a regional powerhouse in power exports, contributing significantly to the West African Power Pool (WAPP).
During a press briefing at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) in Monrovia, Prince Mohamed Abdul-Majeed, Managing Director of the Malaikah Energy Group, underscored the company’s strong support for President Weah’s development agenda.
Abdul-Majeed highlighted how the project will both boost energy production and foster industrialization. He emphasized its critical role in propelling Liberia’s economic growth and strengthening regional energy integration.
“We are here to support the President’s development agenda under his Pro-Poor Policy. This project will help boost energy production and industrialisation in Liberia and make the nation a regional exporter of power and a part of the West African Power Pool,” Abdul-Majeed stated.
He also stressed that affordable energy is essential for economic progress, pointing out that stable, reliable electricity is a cornerstone of industrial development and job creation. Furthermore, he highlighted Liberia’s potential to emerge as a regional energy hub by exporting power to neighboring countries.

Reiterating the project’s importance to the President’s vision for Liberia, Abdul-Majeed assured stakeholders of the group’s dedication to a timely completion that meets all expectations.
“We are here to support the President’s development agenda under his Pro-Poor Policy by providing affordable energy to the country. We are working with the President to make sure that this project is completed on time and within budget. We are committed to delivering this project on time and meeting the President’s expectations,” Abdul-Majeed said.
He confirmed the group will install the 950 megawatts of power within 18 months, stressing the project’s importance for Liberia’s energy infrastructure and its contribution to economic growth.
Liberia power project aims to cut electricity cost to 15 cents per kWh
A key goal of the project is to reduce the cost of electricity in Liberia to 15 cents per kilowatt-hour, making it more accessible for businesses and households.
The Minister of State without Portfolio, Trokon A. Kpui, reaffirmed President Weah’s commitment to advancing Liberia’s electricity sector, describing the project as a major step toward achieving national energy sustainability.
“The President is committed to improving Liberia’s electricity sector, and this project is a major step towards achieving that goal. He is committed to making sure that the people of Liberia have access to reliable and affordable electricity,” Kpui stated.
Kpui highlighted the project’s significance in ensuring Liberians have access to reliable and affordable electricity, noting its alignment with the President’s vision for a stronger, more prosperous Liberia.
