Libya solar energy: Infinity Libya Launches First 1 MW Plant

Infinity Libya’s Solar Energy Milestone

Infinity Libya, a subsidiary of Infinity Group, announced the completion of Libya’s first-ever solar power plant with a capacity of 1 MW in Kufra, delivered on May 25, 2025. This project represents a key step in the company’s strategy to grow its renewable energy footprint in the country.

Libya Solar Energy Renewable Energy Strategy

The company has emphasized the potential of solar energy to reduce reliance on diesel fuels, enhance energy security, and support broader economic development in Libya. In an op-ed, Infinity Libya argued that expanding solar capabilities could also lead to increased exports of hydrocarbons, benefiting the national economy.

Impact of Libya Solar Energy

Infinity Libya outlined that a larger solar installation, such as a 100 MW solar PV plant, could save approximately 75 million liters of diesel annually, generate around 295,000 MWh of electricity per year, and create over 2,000 jobs. These figures indicate the significant economic and environmental benefits that could be realized through the growth of the solar sector in Libya.

A Broader Vision for Libya Solar Energy

Infinity Libya has established itself as a prominent player in the renewable energy sector, having developed over 180 MW of solar photovoltaic projects in Egypt. The company’s initiatives span across Africa and the Levant, focusing on solar, wind, and waste-to-energy projects aiming to diversify energy sources in the region.

Future Libya Solar Energy Projects

The completion of the Kufra solar plant signals a commitment to energy transition in Libya, aligning with global trends towards renewable energy development. As the company looks ahead, it plans to pursue additional solar projects to enhance the local energy landscape.
