Singapore’s Sembcorp Industries, through a joint venture with Jinko Power Technology, has officially commenced commercial operations at the Manah II Solar Power Project in Oman. The 588-megawatt facility came online more than four months ahead of its originally projected completion date, delivering a significant boost to the Sultanate’s renewable energy capacity.
Located in the Ad Dakhiliyah governorate, the plant successfully passed all required acceptance tests in December 2024, beating its initial April 2025 commissioning target. Sembcorp Jinko Shine, the joint venture entity, will supply power to the grid under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the state-run Nama Power and Water Procurement Company.
The project is a cornerstone of Oman’s Vision 2040, a national strategy focused on diversifying the economy and reducing carbon emissions. Manah II, alongside its counterpart the 500 MW Manah I project, substantially increases the country’s installed solar capacity, accelerating its transition away from fossil fuels and enhancing its energy security.
For Sembcorp, the early completion of this large-scale project underscores its strong execution capabilities in the renewable sector. This achievement is anticipated to have a positive impact on the company’s earnings per share for the current financial year. It reflects Sembcorp’s broader strategy of focusing on green energy projects and other sustainable renewable energy ventures across Asia.
