Mauritius solar contract: 1.8 MW Project is Amazing

GreenYellow Partners with Meaders Feeds Ltd for New Solar Farm in Mauritius

GreenYellow has partnered with Meaders Feeds Ltd to develop a 1.8 MWp solar farm in Mauritius. Located in Mare d’Albert, this project is expected to produce around 2.5 GWh of renewable energy each year. This output—equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of more than 1,200 Mauritian households—will help significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Supporting Mauritius’ Renewable Energy Goals with a New Solar Contract

Construction on the solar farm is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2025, with completion expected by the second quarter. The project will contribute to Mauritius’ national energy goals of increasing the share of renewables in its energy mix to 50% by 2025 and 60% by 2030. This initiative aligns with the country’s Long-Term Energy Strategy 2022-2032, helping to reduce Mauritius’ reliance on fossil fuels, improve energy security, and lower electricity costs.

Meaders Feeds Ltd, a leading Mauritian company in the animal feed industry, is a key partner in this initiative, supplying the land and infrastructure needed for the solar farm. The project also benefits from a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Central Electricity Board (CEB), the national utility company. This agreement guarantees a stable market for the solar farm’s electricity production.

Project Impact on Mauritius’ Energy Infrastructure

The solar farm is set to play a crucial role in diversifying Mauritius’ energy sources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It will also create jobs during its construction and operation phases, contributing to local economic development. This initiative is part of GreenYellow’s broader strategy for renewable energy projects across Africa and the Indian Ocean. It also aligns with Mauritius’ significant expansion of its solar capacity through a partnership with the International Solar Alliance (ISA), as reported by PVKnowhow.

A French company specializing in renewable energy and energy efficiency, GreenYellow has been active in Mauritius since 2018. To date, the company has developed and now operates over 27 MWp of photovoltaic capacity in the country, spanning both ground-mounted and rooftop installations.

GreenYellow’s Strategic Expansion Across Africa

GreenYellow is also expanding its presence in other African countries. In Senegal, for example, the company recently signed a concession contract with the National Agency for Renewable Energies (ANER) to develop a 25 MWp solar power plant in the Thiès region. The project supports Senegal’s plan to enhance its renewable energy infrastructure and reduce its dependence on fossil fuels.

In Benin, GreenYellow has partnered with the Ministry of Energy to install solar systems on the rooftops of public buildings in Cotonou. This initiative supports a broader effort to promote renewable energy in urban areas and reduce the carbon footprint of public institutions.

The partnership between GreenYellow and Meaders Feeds Ltd marks a significant step in Mauritius’ renewable energy journey. The 1.8 MWp solar farm will contribute to the country’s energy security while supporting its ambitious renewable energy targets. This project also complements other landmark steps by Mauritius toward a sustainable energy future, including the signing of the International Solar Alliance’s (ISA) Country Partnership Framework, according to PVKnowhow. As GreenYellow expands its operations across Africa, such projects will play a vital role in promoting sustainable development and reducing the continent’s reliance on fossil fuels.
