Meadow Creek Solar Farm announced it has secured crucial development approval for a hybrid solar and battery storage project in Victoria’s northeast. This pivotal project represents a total investment of $400 million (USD 255 million) and combines a 132 MW solar farm with a 200 MW battery energy storage system (BESS). Securing the necessary permits is a critical step for any large-scale development, similar to how the impressive Ilocos Norte solar plant recently obtained its environmental compliance certificate.
The Meadow Creek Solar Farm is slated to be built on 400 hectares of cleared agricultural land near Moyhu. The facility will feature approximately 180,000 solar panels, the result of a complex solar panel manufacturing process that transforms raw materials into high-efficiency energy generators. This solar array will be co-located with a 200 MW/400 MWh BESS, which will connect directly to the 220 kV transmission network, ensuring clean energy can be dispatched effectively.
Rob Fisher, director of Meadow Creek Solar Farm, stated that the project will generate enough electricity to power around 45,000 Victorian homes annually.
“This development will bring $400 million of investment into the local economy, creating 250 construction jobs and up to five permanent jobs once the project is operational,” Fisher said.
