Moldova’s Solar Energy Renewable Capacity
Moldova’s renewable-energy capacity is projected to exceed 1 GW, primarily driven by solar energy development. As part of the country’s long-term energy strategy, photovoltaic capacity is anticipated to reach approximately 1,200 MW, while wind energy capacity may grow to about 2,600 MW by 2050.
Moldova Solar Energy Strategy Goals
The strategy aims to achieve domestic generation covering around 90% of electricity consumption, with at least 85% of local electricity production sourced from renewable means. Additionally, the government seeks to reduce electricity import dependence from the current 77% to 40%. Plans also include increasing electricity’s share of final energy consumption from 12% to 65% by 2050.
Incentives for Moldova Solar Energy Investment
To support renewable energy initiatives, Moldova is providing incentives to investors in renewable-generation and electricity-storage equipment. This includes a 20-month grace period for deferring customs duties and excise payments, potentially accelerating solar deployment.
Future Projections for Moldova Solar Energy
With the expanding focus on solar power, it is predicted to remain the fastest route for increasing renewable capacity in the country. In parallel, wind development presents significant long-term growth potential as part of Moldova’s strategy to create a more robust energy infrastructure.
