Montenegro solar energy: Impressive 2024 growth is essential

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is supporting Montenegro’s transition to renewable energy by financing the country’s first large-scale solar power plant. This initiative aligns with Montenegro’s broader renewable energy strategy, including the construction of the country’s largest solar power facility, Velje Brdo, with a capacity of 200 MW, as covered in recent news about EPCG solar expansion.

This move is part of a broader regional effort to increase solar energy capacity and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Several projects are underway to bolster Montenegro’s renewable energy capacity; for example, the Rudine Solar Project recently secured a grid connection.

Montenegro’s new solar power plant is expected to significantly contribute to the country’s energy mix, helping to meet rising electricity demands while also aligning with environmental goals. The country’s strategic focus on solar energy aims to strengthen energy security and create jobs, as well as potentially spurring solar panel manufacturing in Montenegro.
