Oman is set to launch its first utility-scale solar and battery storage project, the Manah II solar plant, with a capacity of 400 MW. The plant will feature a 200 MW-hour battery storage system, ensuring reliable power supply even during peak demand periods. This project marks a significant step in Oman’s renewable energy journey, showcasing the country’s commitment to sustainable development.
This initiative aligns with Oman’s broader strategy to diversify its energy sources and reduce its reliance on fossil fuels. Oman has set ambitious renewable energy targets, aiming for an impressive 21% by 2025. This commitment is further underscored by projects like the 500 MW Ibri 3 solar power project, demonstrating significant solar power initiatives in Oman.
The Manah II solar plant will contribute significantly to Oman’s installed solar power capacity, which, as of 2023, was approximately 500 MW, according to the Oman Solar Production Report. These projects solidify Oman’s role in the global solar energy market, especially as the market is projected to grow substantially in the coming years. Oman’s 2050 solar target further emphasizes its dedication to a sustainable energy future.
