Poland PV plant contract: Impressive 722MW deal secured

Goldbeck Wins the Poland PV plant contract for 722MW Project

In a landmark move for the European renewable energy sector, German solar developer Goldbeck Solar has officially secured the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for a massive 722MWp photovoltaic (PV) portfolio in Poland. This ambitious project, set to become the largest PV installation in Europe, marks a significant step forward in Poland’s green energy transition.

A Project of Unprecedented Scale: The Poland PV plant contract

The contract, awarded by Belgian renewables developer Virya Energy, encompasses the construction of three distinct solar plants located in Poland’s West Pomeranian province. The portfolio is comprised of the Sidłowo plant (290MWp), the Kikowo plant (235MWp), and the Dobrowo plant (197MWp). Together, this cluster forms Poland’s largest solar PV development.

Once fully operational, the 722MWp project is projected to generate an impressive 666GWh of clean electricity annually, contributing substantially to the national grid and reducing the country’s carbon footprint. The portfolio was previously owned by Optima Wind and was acquired by Virya Energy with the support of a significant €85 million (US$99 million) equity investment from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

Comprehensive EPC and Grid Integration for Poland PV plant contract

Goldbeck Solar’s role as the EPC contractor covers the entire scope of the project, highlighting the company’s extensive technical capabilities. A key challenge and feature of the project is its direct connection to the 400kV high-voltage transmission network managed by Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE), Poland’s transmission system operator.

Goldbeck will be responsible for all critical phases of development and construction, including the implementation of HV/MV substations, high-voltage cable routes, and the crucial grid connection infrastructure, including the main STR LKO 400/110 kV substation.

Steffen Emmerich, managing director of Goldbeck Solar Polska, commented on the achievement, stating: “Securing the full EPC scope for such a complex, large-scale project highlights our capabilities and positions us at the forefront of Europe’s renewable energy sector.”

This project not only underscores Goldbeck’s expertise in delivering complex, utility-scale solar farms but also signals the growing momentum of the solar industry across Europe. The 722MW Polish portfolio is a testament to the increasing scale and ambition of renewable energy projects on the continent.
