JA Solar JUWI agreement brings high-efficiency modules to major projects
JA Solar has recently inked a significant agreement to supply 220MW of its high-efficiency PV modules to JUWI South Africa, supporting two pivotal solar projects: the 84 MW Wolf Wind Project and the 136 MW Garob Wind Project. These initiatives are integral components of South Africa’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) and are slated to commence commercial operations by 2025.
The REIPPPP serves as South Africa’s strategic framework to foster renewable energy development, aiming to diminish the nation’s reliance on coal. Since its inception in 2011, this program has successfully attracted more than R209 billion (US$13 billion) in foreign direct investment, establishing it as the most substantial renewable energy procurement initiative on the African continent.
REIPPPP accelerates solar growth through JA Solar JUWI agreement
The REIPPPP has played a crucial role in diversifying South Africa’s energy portfolio, with solar PV contributing to 45% of the procured capacity and wind energy accounting for 55%. To date, 59 solar PV projects, collectively generating 3.7 GW of power, have been successfully launched under this program. These projects are a testament to South Africa’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint while ensuring energy security.
JA Solar’s advanced PV modules, renowned for their high efficiency and durability, are expected to be instrumental in the success of the Wolf Wind and Garob Wind Projects. These projects are anticipated to provide clean energy to thousands of South African households, thereby decreasing the nation’s dependence on fossil fuels and curbing greenhouse gas emissions.
Chengsong Li, Assistant President of JA Solar, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are delighted to partner with JUWI South Africa and support the country’s transition to a sustainable energy future. Our high-efficiency PV modules are designed to perform well in various climates, making them an ideal choice for South Africa’s renewable energy projects.”
