Renewable energy alliance enhances cooperation
A renewable-energy alliance in Central America and the Caribbean is expanding cooperation through a new agreement with the Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLADE). The pact was signed during the XI Energy Week in the Dominican Republic.
The renewable energy alliance and its focus
The alliance, known as ARCA, unites renewable-energy associations from Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, and the Dominican Republic. Its cooperation agenda includes sharing technical expertise and knowledge, coordinating institutional dialogue, increasing renewable-generation capacity, developing energy-storage systems, modernizing electricity-distribution networks, and updating regulations to attract private investment.
Leadership roles within the renewable energy alliance
The Dominican Republic has assumed the vice presidency of ARCA, while Panama’s solar-energy chamber holds the presidency. This leadership shift is aligned with efforts to accelerate regional energy integration and enhance the efficiency and resilience of electricity systems.
Goals of the renewable energy alliance cooperation
ARCA aims to strengthen the conditions for attracting investments in renewable energy, energy storage, and electric grid modernization. The focus on these areas is expected to facilitate improved dialogue on renewable energy policy among the member nations.
Regional implications of the renewable energy alliance
This agreement reflects a broader commitment to developing clean energy sources throughout Central America and the Caribbean. By fostering cooperation and leveraging shared resources, members anticipate advancing their individual and collective energy goals.
