Building on its strong foundation in hydropower, the company is now intensively focusing on solar and wind energy projects to align with Slovenia’s 2030 goals of generating 43% of electricity from renewable sources.
Current Renewable Energy Slovenia Portfolio
HSE Group stands as Slovenia’s largest producer of electricity from renewable sources, boasting a total installed capacity of 1,003 MW across various power plants. Annually, the company generates 3,000 GWh of electricity from renewables, which is sufficient to power approximately 200,000 Slovenian households.
The company operates eight large and several small hydroelectric power plants. Among these, the Dravske elektrarne Maribor is notable as Slovenia’s largest renewable energy producer, with an installed capacity of 600 MW. Another significant hydroelectric power plant managed by HSE is the Soške elektrarne Nova Gorica, with a capacity of 155 MW.
In addition to its hydroelectric power plants, HSE Group is actively expanding its solar power capabilities. The company currently operates the Zlatoličje and Prapretno solar power plants, collectively offering an installed capacity of 8 MW.

Renewable Energy Slovenia Solar Power Expansion
To meet Slovenia’s renewable energy targets, HSE Group is rapidly expanding its solar power capacity. The company has set an ambitious plan to install 1,000 MW of solar power by 2030, potentially contributing more than 10% of Slovenia’s total electricity generation.
In 2024, HSE Group plans to commission three major solar power plants: a 29 MW facility in Trbovlje, a 15 MW plant in Maribor, and a 9 MW site in Krško. These projects are expected to provide clean energy to tens of thousands of Slovenian households, significantly cutting down the country’s reliance on fossil fuels.
Beyond large-scale solar projects, HSE Group is developing smaller solar initiatives across Slovenia, including installations in Prebold, Hrastnik, Brestanica, and Jesenice, which together will add 47 MW of capacity.
Collaboration with local governments, businesses, and individuals to install rooftop solar panels is also part of HSE Group’s strategy. This initiative is projected to add 50 MW of capacity by 2026, further supporting Slovenia’s shift towards renewable energy.
Renewable Energy Slovenia Wind Power Projects
HSE Group is making substantial investments in wind power, focusing on developing large-scale wind farms to meet Slovenia’s renewable energy goals. The company aims to achieve over 100 MW of wind power capacity by 2030.
One of the company’s most ambitious wind power endeavors is the 44 MW Ojstrica wind farm, anticipated to be completed by 2028. This project will generate enough electricity to power 30,000 Slovenian households, marking a significant contribution to the nation’s renewable energy mix.
Additionally, HSE Group is planning several other wind power projects, including the 40 MW Zajčica wind farm and the 20 MW Košuta wind farm. These projects will further diversify Slovenia’s energy mix and decrease its dependence on fossil fuels.
Future Renewable Energy Slovenia Plans
HSE Group’s long-term vision is to become a leader in renewable energy production within Slovenia. The company plans to continue its investments in solar and wind power, aiming for 1,000 MW of solar capacity and 150 MW of wind capacity by 2030.
In its pursuit of innovation, HSE Group is also exploring other renewable energy technologies such as geothermal and biomass, recognizing their potential to significantly contribute to Slovenia’s future energy landscape.
