Fulton County’s Solar Energy Initiative Sees Major Expansion
Fulton County is advancing its commitment to renewable energy by installing a new 235-kilowatt solar array at the Harriet G. Darnell Senior Multipurpose Facility. This project is part of a broader Fulton energy initiative to add 2.8 megawatts of solar power across 12 county-owned buildings, enough to power over 300 homes.
In addition to reducing carbon emissions and lowering energy costs, the expansion is also helping create local jobs and educating the public about the benefits of renewable energy. Fulton County isn’t alone in its push for solar power; other regions are also making notable advancements.
Pennsylvania’s Largest Solar Project
The University of Pennsylvania, for example, took a major step toward its 2042 carbon neutrality goal by installing two large solar farms in central Pennsylvania with a combined capacity of 220 MW. Operational since December 2023, these farms represent the largest solar project in the state. Learn more about this initiative here.
Commercial Solar Installation in Chatham County
Meanwhile, in Savannah, a $5.75 million contract expansion with Cherry Street Energy will add 1.26 megawatts of new solar capacity to 14 city buildings. This significant commercial solar installation in Chatham County is expected to save the city $1.4 million over 25 years and underscores Savannah’s commitment to renewable energy. Boosting Georgia’s Solar Supply Chain
Also in Georgia, Qcells received significant financial support from the Department of Energy to expand its solar plant operations. The expansion is expected to produce 3.3 GW of solar panels annually—enough to supply half a million U.S. households. This initiative is part of a larger national trend toward bolstering the solar supply chain and creating green jobs. Discover more about Qcells’ expansion.
A Brighter, More Sustainable Future
Taken together, Fulton County’s solar expansion and these other projects highlight a growing trend toward sustainable energy solutions across the United States. These initiatives not only help combat climate change but also support economic growth and energy independence. As more cities and organizations join the renewable energy movement, the outlook for a cleaner, more sustainable planet grows brighter.
