World Bank Approves Solar Expansion Funding for Liberia
The World Bank has approved US$57 million for Liberia’s renewable energy program. The funding aims to expand the Mount Coffee solar park from 20 megawatts (MW) to 30 MW, add battery energy storage systems, and upgrade the electricity network to improve reliability and access.

This financing is part of a broader package of US$125 million in World Bank support for Liberia, which includes investments in digital connectivity, energy, and transport projects. Key details include that the solar expansion is associated with the Regional Emergency Solar Power Intervention Project (RESPITE). Reports indicate that the battery energy storage system is expected to have a capacity of 12 MW.
