RWE and PPC to Build 567 MW Solar Projects Macedonia for a Stunning Future

RWE and PPC Finalize Major Solar Projects in Kozani

RWE and PPC Renewables are set to build three solar parks in the Kozani region of Central Macedonia, Greece, with a combined capacity of 567 MW. The companies have now reached financial closure on these large-scale solar projects, allowing construction to begin soon.

The solar parks will feature an impressive 1,078,000 photovoltaic modules and 6,800 single-axis trackers. This ambitious initiative aligns with Greece’s renewable energy goals and underscores a strong commitment to sustainable development.

The 210 MW Kozani I and 190 MW Kozani II solar parks are expected to begin commercial operations in mid-2026. The 167 MW Kozani III project is slated to be operational by the end of that year, establishing the projects as key contributors to Greece’s clean energy future.

Kozani Solar Parks to Power 300,000 Homes Annually

Once fully operational, the solar plants will generate enough clean energy to power approximately 300,000 homes each year, making a significant contribution to Greece’s renewable energy targets. The projects are also expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 700,000 tonnes per year, reinforcing the country’s commitment to a smaller carbon footprint.

George Sakellaris, CEO of RWE Renewables Hellas, stated: “I would like to express my gratitude to PPC Renewables for their continued trust and collaboration, which has been instrumental in reaching this significant milestone. The successful financial close of these solar parks is a testament to our shared vision and commitment to advancing renewable energy in Greece. I also extend my appreciation to our investors and partners for their unwavering support. Together, we are making a substantial contribution to Greece’s energy transition.”

The Kozani projects will play a crucial role in Greece’s renewable energy transition by providing a stable and sustainable power source for the region.

Eurobank and Alpha Bank Provide Financing for Kozani Projects

Eurobank and Alpha Bank are providing the non-recourse financing for the Kozani solar projects, a move that shows strong support for Greece’s renewable energy sector. This financial backing is crucial for the successful completion of the solar parks and underscores the banks’ commitment to sustainable energy initiatives.

RWE Renewables and PPC Renewables have a proven track record of successful solar projects in Greece, including the operational 210 MW solar park in Megalopoli, Peloponnese. This experience confirms their ability to deliver large-scale renewable energy projects on time and within budget.
