Canadian Solar Chile’s Landmark Solar Project: A New Era in Renewable Energy
Canadian Solar has announced a groundbreaking solar energy initiative in Chile that includes a substantial energy storage component. Partnering with Chilean solar developer TravesÃa Solar, Canadian Solar will supply an impressive 912 MWh energy storage system to be seamlessly integrated with the 600 MWp Santa Isabel solar power project.
Santa Isabel: Chile’s Largest Solar-Plus-Storage Project
Set to become Chile’s largest solar power facility, the 600 MWp Santa Isabel project will be located in the Antofagasta region, a key area for renewable energy development. The plant is poised to generate approximately 1.6 TWh of clean solar electricity annually—enough to power about 300,000 households.
Its integrated 228 MW/912 MWh energy storage system will store surplus solar energy and release it when needed, a crucial capability for stabilizing the grid and ensuring a consistent power supply. This capability also allows the plant to provide stored energy during peak demand, enhancing overall efficiency and profitability. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2025, with commercial operations expected to start in 2026.
