Solarpack’s Spain Solar Community Inaugurated in Badajoz
Solarpack has completed the largest solar community in Spain, a 1.45 MW project in Badajoz. This rooftop installation, situated atop a logistics hub, will supply renewable electricity to nearly 1,000 homes, generating over 2 million kWh annually. This achievement aligns with the significant growth in self-consumption PV witnessed in Spain, as highlighted by PVKnowhow’s report on the 1.4 GW expansion in 2024.
Emission Reductions from Spain’s Solar Community
The 1.45 MW solar community in Badajoz is projected to generate over 2 million kWh of clean electricity per year, enough to power almost 1,000 homes. This will significantly reduce emissions, cutting approximately 400 tonnes of CO2 annually—equivalent to the CO2 absorption of roughly 750 trees. The project, a collaboration between Solarpack, Enérgya-VM, and logistics company XPO, was officially unveiled on October 24.
Spain Solar Community: Commitment and Benefits
This innovative project will deliver renewable energy to approximately 1,000 homes within a 2-kilometer radius, providing local residents with access to clean and affordable energy. Participants can expect savings of up to 25% on their electricity bills. Solarpack will manage the installation and maintenance of the solar panels, while Enérgya-VM, an electricity retailer, will oversee energy marketing and customer contracts. XPO, the logistics hub owner, will also purchase a portion of the generated energy, securing a sustainable power source for its operations.
Spain’s Largest Solar Community Sets a Milestone
Solarpack’s 1.45 MW installation marks a significant milestone as Spain’s largest solar community, underscoring the country’s growing commitment to renewable energy. This initiative reflects Solarpack’s dedication to sustainability and environmental responsibility, echoing similar projects like the 1.1 MW solar community installed on a Carrefour hypermarket rooftop in Barakaldo, Biscay, which serves over 750 homes. Spain’s advancements in solar energy storage, as reported by PVKnowhow, further bolster the nation’s transition towards a greener future.
Solarpack Expands Spain Solar Community Model Globally
Beyond community-focused projects, Solarpack actively develops larger-scale solar farms, such as the recently commissioned 28 MW facility in Islay, Peru, with a projected annual output exceeding 60 GWh. This complements other Spanish solar projects, such as the 54 MWp Velux Group’s Solar Park, which combines solar energy and agriculture. The company’s global reach extends to the United States, with the successful sale of a 55 MW solar farm in Illinois for $38.1 million. Further projects are in development, including a 118.5 MW solar farm in Poland and a 140 MW project in Peru slated for operation by 2026. Solarpack’s contributions to Spain’s renewable energy landscape include a 50 MW solar farm in Utrera, Seville, developed under the Segunda Subasta de Capacidad de Producción de Energía Eléctrica en el Régimen Retributivo Específico auction system, and a 100 MW solar project in Uzbekistan, highlighting the company’s global commitment to renewable energy expansion. The Badajoz solar community exemplifies Solarpack’s leadership in driving the global transition to sustainable energy solutions.
