Sremska Mitrovica solar plant: Stunning 2026 launch

Sremska Mitrovica will soon host one of Europe’s largest solar power plants, a project led by the Serbian company MT-Komex. The construction will begin this year, with the first phase expected to operate by 2025 and the entire plant by 2026. This project joins a growing list of solar initiatives across Europe, like the one in Slovakia pushing for 400 MW of power by 2027. It also mirrors the trend of increasing solar projects in the region, such as the approval of a 30 MW solar project in Slovenia. While TotalEnergies has launched a 263 MW facility in France, currently the largest in Europe, this Serbian project aims to compete in scale. Other significant projects include the securing of €82 million in financing for a 148MW solar farm in Latvia, demonstrating the Baltics’ growing interest in solar energy.
