The study, spearheaded by the Ministry of Industry, Energy, and Mining, was a collaborative effort involving key players like the Ministry of Environment, UTE, and the Uruguayan Chamber of Renewable Energies. It underscores the importance of continuing to diversify the energy matrix with renewable energy sources, particularly solar and wind, and addressing the challenge of integrating more variable renewables into the system by 2050.

As of 2022, Uruguay’s electricity generation was predominantly renewable, with hydropower comprising 35.1%, wind power 33.6%, biomass 17.6%, and solar 4.5%.
