Voltalia, a leading renewable energy company, has begun construction on its first solar project in Colombia. Located in the Tolima region, the 19.7-megawatt Los Venados project will use over 33,000 solar panels to provide clean energy for private-sector buyers under a long-term agreement.
Key Features of the Solar Project
Backed by a 15-year power purchase agreement, the solar project will supply electricity to private clients, covering the energy needs of more than 40,000 people. The plant is also expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 23,000 tons annually. Voltalia expects to commission the facility in the first quarter of 2026.
Voltalia has been active in Colombia since 2019, developing a project pipeline of over 350 megawatts. This expansion taps into Colombia’s fast-growing renewable energy sector, a market with significant opportunities in both solar and wind. The government’s push for clean energy adoption is making the market increasingly attractive for investors.
Voltalia’s Global Expansion
Voltalia’s operations span multiple renewable energy sectors, including wind, solar, hydro, biomass, and storage. The company has a total capacity of 3.3 gigawatts either operational or under construction, and its development portfolio includes projects totaling 17.2 gigawatts.
With more than 2,000 employees in 20 countries across three continents, Voltalia delivers renewable energy solutions on a global scale. This expansion is driven by the rising worldwide demand for clean energy.
Future Outlook and Sustainability Goals
Voltalia is listed on Euronext Paris under the ticker VLTSA and is a component of key market indices, including the Enternext Tech 40 and CAC Mid&Small. The company remains committed to sustainability as it expands its footprint in emerging markets.
Robert Klein, CEO of Voltalia, expressed the company’s enthusiasm for entering the Colombian market: “We are proud to launch the construction of our first project in Colombia. We see potential in this market and are excited to explore new partnerships and opportunities developed from greenfield initiatives in the region.”
The Los Venados solar project marks a new chapter for Voltalia in Latin America. With its strong commitment to clean energy, the company is set to play a vital role in Colombia’s renewable energy transition. The project will help reduce emissions and create local opportunities while contributing to the country’s growing solar sector.
