The Leupane Energy Hub is a cornerstone of Botala Energy’s ambitious strategy to transform Botswana into a leader in renewable energy and natural gas production. The 250MW solar project is the first phase of a larger 500MW solar development, with the second phase set to include additional energy generation and industrial facilities.

A second phase will add a 200MW gas-fired electricity plant, a natural gas production facility, and a copper beneficiation plant. Integrating solar power with natural gas will ensure a steady supply, even when solar generation is low. This approach also aligns with Botswana’s national energy policy, which aims to increase the share of renewables while effectively utilizing its natural gas resources.
To support the hub, Botala Energy is also building the necessary facilities. Applications for building permits related to the photovoltaic manufacturing plant and the solar farm have already been submitted. Botala Energy has entered into joint ventures with Solar Finland and AAAS Energy to support the construction and operation of these facilities.
