A major milestone for Taiwan’s renewable energy ambitions has been achieved with the full commercial operation of the Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm. Positioned in the Taiwan Strait, this formidable 640 MW project is now one of Asia’s largest offshore wind installations, underscoring a significant step forward in the region’s transition to clean energy.

The facility is strategically located 8 to 17 kilometers off the coast of Yunlin County, harnessing the strong winds of the strait in water depths ranging from 7 to 35 meters. The farm’s impressive capacity is delivered by 80 individual 8 MW turbines, which are collectively expected to generate approximately 2,400 GWh of clean electricity each year. This output is sufficient to power hundreds of thousands of households, contributing substantially to the reduction of carbon emissions.

The successful completion of this fixed-bottom offshore wind project is the result of a robust international collaboration. The development was managed by Yunneng Wind Power Co., Ltd., a joint venture comprising several key players in the global energy sector: Skyborn Renewables, TotalEnergies, Thailand’s EGCO Group, and Japan’s Sojitz Corporation. This partnership showcases the global expertise and investment fueling the growth of large-scale renewable infrastructure.

With its inauguration, the Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm provides a powerful boost to Taiwan’s national green energy goals. The project stands as a testament to the viability and impact of offshore wind technology in delivering reliable, utility-scale power and accelerating the global shift away from fossil fuels.
