Time dotCom Bhd has launched Malaysia’s first community solar project, featuring a 2.9-megawatt peak (MWp) solar photovoltaic (PV) system. This project is part of Time Energy Sdn Bhd (TESB), a joint venture between Time dotCom and NEFIN Group, a regional expert in carbon neutrality.
Community Solar Malaysia Project to Offset 2,800 Tonnes of CO2 Annually
The project, located at the Westlite-Dorms I and II in Senai, Johor, was developed in collaboration with Centurion Corporation. It is expected to offset 2,800 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) annually, equivalent to the carbon sequestration of over 45,000 tree seedlings grown for ten years.
The project is part of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change’s (NRECC) 10-year Community Solar Programme (MySuria), which aims to promote renewable energy adoption and reduce carbon emissions. This initiative is similar to Bhutan’s remarkable stride in renewable energy, where the nation commissioned its first solar power plant, marking significant progress in their renewable energy journey. For more information, refer to Bhutan’s solar energy revolution.
Under the MySuria programme, the government has allocated 100 MW for solar projects to be installed at residential, commercial, or industrial buildings, with the electricity generated shared with the community.
