Elawan Energy Secures PPA with Sandoz for 150MW Spanish Solar Project
Elawan Energy has signed a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with global pharmaceutical company Sandoz for its 150MW La Zarzuela Solar PV project in Spain. Currently under development, the project is expected to begin commercial operations by mid-2025.
This agreement will supply a significant portion of the energy generated by the plant, directly supporting Sandoz’s ambitious goal of achieving 100% renewable electricity across its global operations by 2026. The deal comes as Spain’s solar sector continues to expand rapidly, with self-consumption PV installations growing by 1.4GW in 2024, according to PVKnowhow.
Elawan Expands Spanish Solar Portfolio with New PPA
A leading renewable energy company, Elawan Energy has a proven track record of developing, building, and operating over 2.3 GW of projects worldwide. The company is actively expanding its global portfolio with another 1.3 GW of wind, solar, and hydro projects currently under construction or in advanced development stages.
The La Zarzuela project and this partnership with Sandoz underscore Elawan’s commitment to the global energy transition while reinforcing Spain’s growing importance in the European solar market. Recent investments reflect this trend, such as the €210 million allocated to boost PV production and job creation, as highlighted by PVKnowhow.
Further initiatives, such as the planned 820 MW of energy storage projects for Q4 2024 to hybridize solar and wind installations, also point to Spain’s sustainable energy future, as reported by PVKnowhow.
