Angola Solar Project Boosts Renewable Energy Capacity with 370 MW of Power
Angola has completed a significant 370 MW solar power project, substantially increasing its renewable energy capacity. This project comprises seven solar power plants strategically distributed across the provinces of Benguela, Huambo, Biรฉ, and Luanda. With a combined capacity of 373 MWp (megawatt-peak), the project is projected to generate 940 GWh (gigawatt-hours) of clean energy annually, significantly contributing to the nation’s clean energy transition. This initiative aligns with Angola’s broader goals to diversify its energy mix and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Further expansion of solar energy is planned, as highlighted in reports discussing an ambitious 800 MW project by 2025.
These efforts complement other renewable energy initiatives in the country, such as the plan to build 65 solar mini-grids with a $1.6 billion grant, further demonstrating Angola’s commitment to a sustainable energy future. The distributed nature of these projects, spanning multiple provinces, aims to improve energy access and reliability across the country.
