Mauritius is advancing its renewable energy goals with a new tender for a hybrid solar project, combining rooftop and ground-mounted PV systems for a total capacity of 2 MW. The tender, officially named CPRGS-2024, is being managed by the Central Electricity Board (CEB) and is open to participation from both local and international companies.

The tender is structured on an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) basis, meaning the winning bidder will be responsible for the entire project lifecycle from design to commissioning. Earlier in March, a separate tender was announced for 4 MW of solar capacity specifically for commercial and industrial rooftops. More recently, the CEB launched another 2 MW tender for grid-tied, roof-mounted hybrid solar systems on the island of Rodrigues. Notably, this newer tender includes an optional component for up to 1 MWh of modular battery energy storage systems (BESS), signaling a move towards integrated energy solutions. This project is funded by a Green Climate Fund grant and government contributions, with a bid deadline of February 2, 2026.

As the solar sector grows, the CEB is also formalizing regulations, recently issuing a warning that unauthorized solar systems face disconnection if not properly registered, ensuring grid stability and safety.
