Jordan’s 100 MW Solar Project Secures Full Financing
A landmark renewable energy initiative in Jordan has reached a critical milestone. The 100 MW Shams Solar Project has successfully secured its full financing, paving the way for construction to begin on what will be a transformative project for the nation’s industrial sector.
A Boost for Jordanian Industry Through Jordan solar project financing
Developed by the Shams Renewable Power Company under the guidance of the Jordan Chambers of Industry (JCI), this project is a strategic move to bolster the country’s economic and environmental goals. The 100-megawatt solar plant is designed to supply clean, affordable energy directly to 63 industrial firms across Jordan.
According to JCI President Hamzeh Jaghbir, the project is set to deliver significant benefits, including:
* Enhanced Competitiveness: Lowering energy expenses will make Jordanian products more competitive in both domestic and international markets.
* Reduced Production Costs: Stable, lower-cost electricity will directly cut operational overhead for participating companies.
* Increased Exports: By improving the cost-effectiveness of manufacturing, the project is expected to help boost export volumes.
* Job Creation: The construction and operation of the solar facility will generate new employment opportunities.
This initiative is recognized as Jordan’s first multi-company renewable energy project, setting a new precedent for collaborative industrial sustainability.
Project Greenlit for Construction with Jordan solar project financing
With financing now complete, all necessary approvals are in place to move forward. President Jaghbir confirmed that the project has secured grid connection permits and has been allocated a 2,000-dunum parcel of state-owned land for its construction.
Abdullah Shawabkeh, Chairman of the Shams Renewable Power Company, announced that a contract has been signed with a local Jordanian firm to commence the construction phase. He credited the persistent support from the JCI for bringing the project to fruition and highlighted its potential as a model for future initiatives.
By reducing reliance on traditional energy sources, the Shams Solar Project marks a significant step toward improving the sustainability and resilience of Jordan’s industrial backbone.
