GSIS Launches a Solar Panel Installation Loan Program
In a significant move to empower government employees and promote renewable energy, the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has officially launched a P12.5 billion loan program dedicated to financing the installation of solar panels in members’ homes. This initiative, named the Ginhawa Solar Energy Loan (GSEL) program, is a direct response to rising electricity costs and a step towards a more sustainable future for Filipino households.
The program not only allocates a substantial fund for loans but also includes an additional P60 million to provide insurance coverage for the solar panel systems, offering members financial security and peace of mind.
Key Features of the GSIS solar panel loan
The GSEL program is designed to be accessible, affordable, and beneficial for GSIS members looking to reduce their long-term energy expenses. Here are the standout features:
- Loan Amount: Eligible members can borrow up to P500,000 to purchase and install a complete residential solar energy system.
- Affordable Interest Rate: The loan carries a fixed annual interest rate of just 5%.
- Flexible Repayment: Borrowers can repay the loan over a period of five years, broken down into 60 equal monthly installments. For a maximum loan of P500,000, the monthly payment would be approximately P10,416.67.
- No Service Fees: To make the loan even more attractive, GSIS has waived all service fees.
- Free Insurance Coverage: A major benefit of the GSEL is the inclusion of three years of free insurance for the solar panel system. This policy covers damages from fire, earthquakes, lightning, and typhoons. To activate this, members simply need to notify GSIS and submit proof of installation.
Earn Back with Net Metering
Beyond immediate savings on electricity bills, the GSEL program empowers members to take advantage of the government’s net metering system. This system allows homeowners with solar installations to sell any excess electricity they generate back to the power grid, creating an opportunity to further reduce or even eliminate their monthly bills.

By enabling its members to invest in renewable energy, GSIS is paving the way for a more sustainable and economically stable future.
The program is set for an initial rollout of three years, with the possibility of an extension based on its success and impact. While a specific launch date has not yet been announced, eligible members are encouraged to prepare their requirements and stay tuned for further updates from GSIS.
