Brazil transmission lines: Impressive Upgrade Project Advances

TangarĂ¡ Project Reflects Brazil transmission lines: Impressive Upgrade Project Advances

A major R$ 1.1 billion investment in Brazil’s power grid is showing significant progress. The TangarĂ¡ Project, a key initiative to modernize the nation’s energy infrastructure, recently marked a major achievement by energizing critical new components in the state of MaranhĂ£o, bolstering the link between the country’s North and Northeast regions.

Substation and Line Upgrades Now Live

The advancement, part of Lot 03 from the Transmission Auction No. 02/2022, includes the successful energizing of four new transformers at the Santa Luzia III Substation. This substantially increases its capacity to manage and distribute electricity. The newly operational equipment includes:

  • Two 450 MVA transformers (500/230 kV)
  • Two 100 MVA transformers (230/138 kV)

In a parallel development, a crucial sectioning of the 500 kV AçailĂ¢ndia–Miranda II C-1 transmission line was also completed. Together, these upgrades are designed to improve power flow and reinforce grid stability across the region.

Strategic Reinforcement of National Grid

The TangarĂ¡ Project is strategically vital for strengthening the electrical connection between the states of ParĂ¡ in the North and MaranhĂ£o in the Northeast. By increasing the interconnection’s capacity and reliability, the project is building a more resilient and efficient national grid capable of handling growing energy demands.

The full scope of this comprehensive project involves the construction of 354 kilometers of new transmission lines and the addition of 2,300 MVA in total transformation capacity. With these recent milestones successfully reached, the project remains on track, with the remaining works scheduled to achieve full commercial operation by June 2026, marking a critical step in Brazil’s ongoing energy infrastructure enhancement.
