Kedah solar plant: Stunning 29.99 MW Project Secured
A major step forward for Malaysia’s green energy landscape has been confirmed, as property developer MK Land Holdings Bhd and its partner, global energy firm TotalEnergies, have officially reached financial close for a new solar farm in Kedah. This critical milestone, achieved on May 11, 2026, secures the complete funding necessary to transition the 29.99 MWac project from planning to full-scale implementation.
Project Profile and Partnership: Kedah solar plant: Stunning 29.99 MW Project Secured
The ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) plant, with a peak capacity of approximately 50 MWp, will be constructed in Mukim Padang Meha, Kulim. The development is being spearheaded by Solar Citra Sdn. Bhd., a subsidiary of MK Land, with TotalEnergies holding a significant 49% stake in the venture. This collaboration leverages MK Land’s local development expertise with TotalEnergies’ global renewable energy experience.
Developed under Malaysia’s Corporate Green Power Programme (CGPP), the project is designed to facilitate the adoption of renewable energy by corporate consumers. The successful financial close removes all capital constraints, ensuring the project can proceed on schedule.
Future Outlook and Strategic Importance
With financing now cemented, the solar farm is on track to become operational by the end of 2027. The project’s long-term financial stability is underpinned by 21-year Virtual Power Purchase Agreements (VPPAs) signed with corporate offtakers. These agreements guarantee a consistent and predictable revenue stream for MK Land and its partners once the plant begins supplying clean energy to the grid.
For MK Land, this venture represents a significant strategic diversification from its core property business into the rapidly expanding renewable energy sector. The Kedah solar plant not only promises to deliver long-term value for stakeholders but also directly supports Malaysia’s national ambitions for a sustainable, green economy and a cleaner energy future.
