Commissioning of Rooftop Solar Installations
The Bahamas Government, led by Prime Minister Philip Davis, has officially commissioned completed rooftop solar installations as part of the Reconstruction with Resilience in the Energy Sector in The Bahamas (RRESB) program. The commissioning ceremony took place on July 3, 2026, symbolizing the government’s commitment to enhancing the country’s energy infrastructure and promoting sustainability.
Details of the RRESB Program
The RRESB initiative aims to strengthen energy systems and contribute to a more energy-secure Bahamas. During the ceremony, Prime Minister Davis emphasized the importance of such projects in building a sustainable future for the nation. He acknowledged the various efforts to improve the energy landscape, stating, “Solar energy is coming to The Bahamas!” This marks a significant move toward the integration of renewable energy sources in the country.
Additional Solar Initiatives
In addition to the recent rooftop installations, the previous administration, under Prime Minister Hubert Minnis, launched a 925-kilowatt solar plant and initiated a 500-kilowatt solar-covered parking lot at the Office of the Prime Minister. Furthermore, plans are in progress to develop Ragged Island into the first “green-smart island” in The Bahamas, with techno-economic modeling already performed for its electric grid.

Investment and Future Plans
No substantial monetary investment figure, such as $100 million, has been confirmed in relation to these projects. The focus remains on developing smaller-scale solar infrastructure as part of the overarching strategy to transform the Bahamian energy sector. This aligns with broader trends in the Caribbean region, where several countries are investing in solar energy capabilities to meet increasing energy demands.
