SSAP-TVEE Empowers 80 Nigerians With Solar Kiosks

In a significant boost for local enterprise, the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational, and Entrepreneurship Education (SSAP-TVEE) has equipped 80 Nigerian entrepreneurs with locally manufactured solar kiosks. This initiative, a key component of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, provides small business owners with the essential infrastructure to operate and grow sustainably.

SSAP-TVEE Empowers 80 Nigerians With Solar Kiosks: Grassroots Impact

Led by SSAP-TVEE Abiola Arogundade, the program aims to bridge the gap for skilled individuals who lack a physical space for their businesses. The initiative gained significant attention on June 21st during an event at Wuse Shopping Plaza in Abuja, where one of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Tijani Amina Oluwatobiloba, a single mother and hairdresser, received a solar-powered mobile kiosk along with a N500,000 grant.

Mrs. Oluwatobiloba’s story was brought to the forefront by the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Onyejeocha, who identified her as a deserving recipient. Visibly emotional, Mrs. Oluwatobiloba expressed profound gratitude, stating that the support had given her back her life. This specific donation follows a larger pattern of empowerment, including a recent N100 million grant awarded to 120 beneficiaries of the UNLOCK training program, as confirmed by Assistant Chief Information Officer Henry David.

A Strategic Framework for Growth

During the event, Arogundade detailed the program’s three-pronged strategy designed to foster comprehensive growth. “We thought about educating people who need the skills, assisting some who already have the capabilities but need finance, and some who have talents but don’t have a physical site… with solar kiosks,” she explained. This approach ensures that support is tailored to the specific needs of entrepreneurs at different stages of their development.

The emphasis is on creating a self-sustaining ecosystem. The kiosks are not only made in Nigeria, but the SSAP-TVEE office has also trained local artisans to construct and maintain them. These artisans will conduct routine checks, particularly on the batteries, ensuring the long-term viability of the units. Beneficiaries receive full ownership of the kiosks, granting them the freedom to relocate and manage their businesses without restrictions.

Arogundade confirmed that the program’s vision extends beyond the capital. “We are providing training in various skills,” she said, revealing plans to empower more women across different states based on their chosen vocations, directly aligning with the President’s national vision for skill development and economic self-reliance.

This initiative represents a practical application of the Renewed Hope Agenda, leveraging renewable technology to create tangible economic opportunities. By providing these tools, the government is fostering a new generation of entrepreneurs and promoting the adoption of sustainable energy solutions from the ground up.
