JA Solar and Solarpro are developing a 240MW solar plant in Bulgaria, advancing renewable energy in Europe. This project is set to enhance Bulgariaโs renewable energy capacity and support the EUโs green energy goals.
Boosting Renewable Energy Capacity
In a significant move to advance renewable energy in Europe, JA Solar is partnering with Solarpro to develop a substantial 240MW solar power plant in Tenevo, a village in Bulgaria’s Yambol district. This collaboration marks a noteworthy step in bolstering the countryโs renewable energy capacity and aligns with the European Unionโs broader green energy objectives.
The solar power plant will feature high-efficiency TOPCon modules from JA Solarโs DeepBlue 4.0 Pro line. These modules are known for their superior performance and reliability, making them ideal for large-scale energy projects.
Solarpro, a prominent EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contractor and technology provider in Europe, will oversee the entire project lifecycle. This includes the intricate phases of design, implementation, and continuous monitoring to ensure optimal performance.

The project is financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), a financial institution committed to fostering sustainable development through investments that support a low-carbon transition. The involvement of the EBRD not only provides financial backing but also underscores the projectโs alignment with broader European environmental goals.
Strategic Importance and Impact
Installation of the solar modules is set to begin in the third quarter of 2024. The project is expected to be connected to the grid and fully operational by the end of the second quarter of 2025. This swift timeline highlights the urgent need to expand renewable energy infrastructure in the region and reduce dependency on fossil fuels.
Upon completion, the Tenevo solar power plant will be one of the largest solar installations in the region. It is expected to significantly enhance Bulgariaโs renewable energy capacity, contributing to national and regional targets for clean energy production. The project will also play a critical role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and help mitigate the impacts of climate change.
Krasen Mateev, CEO of Solarpro, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, โWe are thrilled to partner with JA Solar on this impactful project. This strategic cooperation exemplifies Solarproโs commitment to delivering innovative and sustainable energy solutions that drive the transition to a greener future in Bulgaria and beyond.โ
Aiqing Yang, Executive President of JA Solar, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of the collaboration in promoting renewable energy development in Bulgaria. โWeโre excited to work with Solarpro on this significant project to bring our most advanced products to the country. This cooperation represents a major step forward in our mission to promote renewable energy development in Bulgaria. Building on this partnership, we look forward to further promoting sustainable energy development in Europe with our partners through our dedicated services and advanced products,โ said Yang.
Economic and Environmental Benefits
The DeepBlue 4.0 Pro modules from JA Solar incorporate TOPCon technology, known for its high conversion efficiency and excellent performance under various environmental conditions. This technology is crucial for maximizing energy output and ensuring the long-term viability of the solar power plant.
The Tenevo solar power plant is set to bring numerous economic and environmental benefits to the region. Economically, the project will create jobs and stimulate local industries during its construction and maintenance. By increasing the share of renewable energy in Bulgariaโs energy mix, the project will also help stabilize energy prices and reduce the countryโs reliance on imported fossil fuels.
Environmentally, the project will contribute to significant reductions in carbon dioxide emissions, aligning with the EUโs commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. The clean energy produced by the plant will replace a substantial amount of electricity that would otherwise be generated from fossil fuels, reducing air pollution and contributing to improved public health.
This collaboration underscores the critical role that strategic partnerships and technological innovation play in advancing the global transition to sustainable energy. By leveraging their respective strengths, JA Solar and Solarpro are contributing to a greener and more sustainable future for Bulgaria and the broader European community.
Hi and thanks for your comment. We are only delivering the machines for the solar panel making. Not the panels…
