50 Youths Benefit From Solar Technology Training in Adamawa

Over 50 youths from the Adamawa Central Senatorial District have completed a weeklong training program on solar technology, equipping them with skills for installation, maintenance, and greater self-reliance. Facilitated by Senator Aminu Iya Abbas in collaboration with the Energy Commission of Nigeria, the initiative also provided participants with startup tools to help them put their new skills to use.

Empowering Youths with Solar Technology Training

Held in response to the growing demand for renewable energy, the intensive, weeklong initiative was designed to enhance self-reliance and address the challenges of unreliable public electricity. The program was a joint effort between the office of Senator Aminu Iya Abbas, the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), and SNG Structure Synergy Limited.

Described by stakeholders as transformative, the initiative aimed to equip participants with critical skills in solar technology. The senator, represented by Dr. Adamu Babikkoi, emphasized that the training went beyond technical knowledge; it also provided startup tools to help participants implement their skills immediately.

Senator Aminu Iya Abbas highlighted the urgent need for renewable energy solutions to address Nigeria’s unstable power supply. He explained that solar technology offers a sustainable alternative that aligns with the global transition toward cleaner energy sources. “The training is part of my commitment to equipping youths with practical skills that can transform their lives and communities,” the senator said.

Beneficiaries were drawn from seven local government areas: Hong, Gombi, Song, Girei, Yola North, Yola South, and Fufore. Each participant received hands-on training and practical demonstrations on solar hybrid systems, preparing them to meet the growing demand for renewable energy solutions.

Collaboration with Experts

The training was enriched by the expertise of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), whose representatives provided in-depth insights into renewable energy technologies. Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, Director General of the ECN, expressed optimism about the program’s long-term impact. Represented by Alhaji Na’yaya Garba, he noted that solar technology is a vital tool for addressing energy challenges and fostering economic growth.

Supervisors N’ayaya Garba and Nafi’u Tijjani, who led the sessions on behalf of the ECN, commended Senator Abbas for his vision, calling the initiative a significant step toward empowering youths with skills for self-reliance.

Local leaders and stakeholders widely praised the training. Chief Luri Zephania, Vice Chairman of Girei Local Government, described the initiative as timely and impactful, urging beneficiaries to make the most of the training and startup tools. “The tools and knowledge you have received are a foundation for a brighter future. Use them to create solutions that will benefit your communities and beyond,” he remarked.

For the participants, the training was a life-changing experience. Speaking on their behalf, Imamu Garba and Hingino Enock expressed gratitude to the organizers and affirmed their readiness to apply their new skills and share their knowledge with others. “The training has given us the confidence and ability to install and maintain solar power systems. We are eager to make a difference in our neighborhoods and contribute to solving the energy crisis,” said Garba.

A Path Toward Sustainability

The focus on solar technology as a sustainable energy solution underscores the initiative’s importance. With Nigeria facing persistent challenges in its electricity supply, renewable energy sources like solar power offer a viable alternative. This training not only addresses the immediate needs of the beneficiaries but also contributes to the broader goal of energy independence.

By equipping youths with skills in solar technology, the program aligns with global trends toward sustainability and innovation. It also opens economic opportunities for participants, who can now provide solar installation and maintenance services in their communities.

Ultimately, the solar technology training led by Senator Aminu Iya Abbas has equipped participants with the practical skills and tools to tackle energy challenges in their communities. The program is expected to create a ripple effect, fostering a network of trained individuals who can address local energy needs and promote renewable energy.
