Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL), India’s largest renewable energy company, has officially commissioned its 180 MW solar power plant in Devikot, located in the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan. The project, which became operational on March 27, 2024, is backed by a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).
The commissioning of this new solar plant elevates AGEL’s operational solar capacity to 6,243 MW and its total renewable energy portfolio to 9,784 MW, solidifying its position as a leader in India’s clean energy sector. The facility is projected to generate approximately 540 million units of electricity each year, which is sufficient to power more than 110,000 homes. Furthermore, it is expected to displace around 0.39 million tons of CO2 emissions annually, contributing significantly to India’s climate goals.
Advanced Technology Powers Adani Green Launches a 180 MW Solar Power Plant In Devikot, Rajasthan
To optimize energy generation in the sun-rich region of Rajasthan, the Devikot plant incorporates state-of-the-art technology. It utilizes next-generation bifacial solar PV modules, which capture sunlight from both sides, paired with horizontal single-axis solar trackers (HSAT) that follow the sun’s path throughout the day. This combination maximizes the plant’s efficiency and output.
In a move to conserve resources in the arid environment, the plant is equipped with waterless robotic module cleaning systems. The entire renewable asset portfolio of AGEL, including this new plant, is monitored in real-time through the company’s cloud-based Energy Network Operation Centre (ENOC), ensuring high operational performance and reliability.
Supporting India’s Clean Energy Ambitions
Projects like the Devikot plant are crucial as solar energy emerging becomes a cornerstone of India’s strategy for energy security and decarbonization. The Indian government has set a formidable target of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, with solar power playing a pivotal role. With abundant sunlight available year-round, the government is actively promoting solar energy adoption to meet the country’s growing power demands and foster sustainable development.
