Bangladesh Renewable Energy Policy Goals
Bangladesh has officially pledged to generate 20% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. This target is a core component of the country’s Renewable Energy Policy 2025, which aims to meet 20% of national power demand with green energy by that year. To achieve this, the government has outlined a draft roadmap aiming for 10,450 MW of renewable capacity by 2030, sufficient to cover approximately 20% of national demand.
Bangladesh Renewable Energy Financial and Legislative Framework
Key measures and requirements to support this goal include new tax incentives for solar equipment and battery storage, featuring a 10-year corporate tax exemption for qualifying projects. Civil society organizations estimate that Bangladesh will need to attract an annual investment of at least Tk21,750 crore to meet its 2030 renewable energy targets.
Bangladesh Renewable Energy Environmental Commitments
Alongside the renewable energy goal, Bangladesh has pledged to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 21.85% below business-as-usual levels by 2030. The strategy relies heavily on strengthening infrastructure and enhancing the role of private capital to advance the green energy transition.
