Cemex Embarks on Cemex solar installation: 14MWp Project to Transform Polish Plants
Cemex has solidified a significant move towards renewable energy in Poland by signing a 15-year agreement with EDP Energia Polska. This strategic collaboration will see the development and installation of photovoltaic (PV) systems with a total capacity of over 14 MWp across multiple Cemex facilities, including key cement and ready-mix concrete plants.
Project Aligns with ‘Future in Action’ Strategy: Cemex solar installation: 14MWp Project to Transform Polish Plants
The initiative is a cornerstone of Cemex’s global “Future in Action” strategy, which aggressively targets decarbonization across its operations. This large-scale solar project directly supports the company’s ambitious goals of reducing its CO2 emissions by 47% by 2030 and ultimately achieving net-zero status. By partnering with EDP Energia Polska, which will manage the installation and operation of the solar arrays, Cemex is taking a decisive step to integrate clean energy directly into its production processes.
Phased Rollout Planned: Cemex solar installation: 14MWp Project to Transform Polish Plants
The implementation of the solar installations will occur in stages. The PV systems at the ready-mix concrete plants are scheduled to become operational in the second quarter of 2025. Following this, the larger installations at the cement plants are expected to come online in the first quarter of 2026. This phased approach ensures a smooth transition and integration of renewable power into the company’s energy-intensive manufacturing operations.
A Broader Commitment to Sustainable Operations Through Cemex solar installation: 14MWp Project to Transform Polish Plants
This solar venture is the latest in a series of sustainability efforts by Cemex to reduce its environmental footprint. The company continues to diversify its energy portfolio, building on previous renewable energy investments such as its advancements into wind power. As the construction industry faces increasing pressure to adopt greener practices, Cemex’s investment positions it as a leader in supplying low-carbon building materials, meeting the growing demand driven by both public and private sector sustainability targets.
