Battery storage Poland: €218 million funding for 400 MW projects

New initiatives enhance battery storage Poland

Poland is advancing new battery storage projects aimed at improving energy security and grid flexibility. Greenvolt has announced two significant battery energy storage systems (BESS) developments in the northeast, backed by a financing package of €218 million from UniCredit.

The funding will support the Elk and Turosn projects, which together total 400 MW and 1.6 GWh, with each system sized at 200 MW and 800 MWh. According to Greenvolt, these projects represent some of the largest battery storage systems in the Polish market.

These initiatives are designed to enhance grid flexibility, facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources, and strengthen supply security across the region. The Turosn Kościelna facility was officially inaugurated in July 2026, while the Elk project is projected to reach commercial operation in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Impacts of battery storage Poland on energy landscape

The growing incorporation of battery energy storage systems is a response to Poland’s increasing demand for reliable energy. The introduction of these large-scale storage systems is meant to mitigate supply interruptions and improve the overall resilience of the electrical grid.

As Poland continues to expand its renewable energy capabilities, these storage solutions will be crucial for balancing production and consumption, enabling the country to better handle fluctuations in energy supply.
