Dubai renewable energy strategy aims for 8,000 MW capacity by 2030

Dubai’s Renewable Energy Initiatives and Vision

Dubai officials, led by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, CEO of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), are advancing the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 through significant renewable energy projects and international partnerships.

Key Projects in Dubai Renewable Energy

A cornerstone of this strategy is the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is recognized as the world’s largest single-site solar park. The project integrates photovoltaic and concentrated solar power technologies, battery storage, and green hydrogen production. It is projected that clean energy capacity from the park will exceed 8,000 megawatts by 2030. The park has also set four Guinness World Records for achievements including the highest capacity single-operator concentrated solar power plant and the tallest concentrated solar power tower.

International Cooperation for Dubai Renewable Energy

Recently, DEWA met with Lütfullah Gökaş, Türkiye’s Ambassador to the UAE, to explore new collaborations in clean energy and water management. Both parties emphasized the importance of knowledge exchange and forming stronger partnerships to achieve long-term sustainability goals.

Energy Security and Dubai Renewable Energy Infrastructure

Al Tayer stressed that energy and water security are vital components of the UAE’s national security. Dubai’s current electricity production capacity stands at approximately 18,000 megawatts, supported by a balanced mix of conventional and renewable energy, and enhanced through the use of AI and smart systems for crisis prediction and risk management.

Strategic Objectives for Dubai Renewable Energy

These initiatives are designed to significantly boost renewable energy usage and cut carbon emissions across Dubai while reinforcing the emirate’s position as a global leader in clean energy.
