Major Solar Portfolio Delivers Power from Georgia solar farm: Stunning 200 MW Project Now Online
Reinforcing its status as a leader in renewable energy, Georgia is now benefiting from a significant 200-megawatt (MWac) solar portfolio operating across the southern part of the state. This large-scale initiative, a collaboration between Green Power EMC and developer Silicon Ranch, is delivering carbon-free electricity to 38 Electric Membership Corporations (EMCs) throughout Georgia, serving millions of members.
A Strategic Partnership Boosting the Georgia solar farm: Stunning 200 MW Project Now Online
Instead of a single facility, this 200 MW capacity is generated by a trio of strategically located solar farms. The portfolio includes the 80 MWac Hazlehurst III Solar Farm, the 74 MWac Terrell Solar Farm, and the 46 MWac Snipesville I Solar Farm. The commissioning of these sites, finalized in late 2020, marked a major achievement in Green Power EMC’s mission to provide its member cooperatives with affordable and sustainable energy solutions.
This collaboration highlights a successful model for deploying renewable resources. Green Power EMC, the renewable energy supplier for its member EMCs, partnered with Silicon Ranch, which funded, constructed, owns, and operates the facilities for the portfolio’s long-term duration. This structure ensures that clean energy is integrated into the state’s power supply reliably and cost-effectively.
Economic and Environmental Benefits from Georgia solar farm: Stunning 200 MW Project Now Online
Beyond generating clean power, these solar projects have become a source of economic vitality for the rural communities they inhabit. The construction phase created a significant number of local jobs, and the operational farms now contribute a substantial, long-term stream of tax revenue. This new income supports essential local services such as schools and infrastructure without increasing the tax burden on residents. Furthermore, Silicon Ranch’s commitment to regenerative land management practices at its sites ensures the projects also deliver environmental benefits to the surrounding land.
The successful operation of this 200 MW portfolio is a clear demonstration of Georgia’s commitment to diversifying its energy mix. By harnessing the state’s abundant solar resources, these projects enhance grid reliability and provide a powerful model for future renewable energy development across the nation.
