Huawei Energy Storage Project Overview
Huawei has completed a 500 MW / 1,000 MWh energy-storage plant in Pursat Province, Cambodia, developed in collaboration with SchneiTec and Cambodia’s national grid operator, Électricité du Cambodge. This substantial energy storage project aims to enhance the resilience of Cambodia’s electricity grid and facilitate the integration of renewable resources.
Huawei Energy Storage Project Technology Details
The project utilizes Huawei’s Smart String Grid Forming Energy Storage System, recently achieving a milestone by passing Southeast Asia’s first GWh-scale black-start-with-load and islanded-operation test. Key features of the system include:
- Synchronized 2,520 power-conversion system units.
- Energizing three transformers totaling 920 MVA within 10 seconds.
- Restoring supply to a local microgrid from a zero-voltage state.
- Re-energizing more than 400 km of transmission lines.
- Coordinating with 120 MW of solar PV and 120 MW of hydropower.
- Facilitating the step-by-step restoration of a test network covering four western Cambodian provinces and over ten substations.
Impact of the Huawei Energy Storage Project on the Energy Sector
This energy storage facility is expected to bolster the country’s grid stability. It allows for a greater reliance on renewable energy sources, aligning with global trends in energy transition.
Future Developments of the Huawei Energy Storage Project
With the successful implementation of this plant, further expansions and enhancements to Cambodia’s energy infrastructure can be anticipated to support its growing energy demands.
