The first flagship project under this collaboration is a 100MW/200MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Chile.
This landmark BESS will be located in the La Araucanรญa region. It represents a significant step forward for the country’s infrastructure, reflecting a broader trend in the growing Chile solar market. As the first large-scale energy storage system in the region, it is designed to enhance grid stability and allow for greater integration of intermittent renewable energy sources like solar and wind. Expanding Energy Storage in Latin America with BYD
Beyond the initial project in Chile, BYD and Skysense plan to deploy an additional 100MW/100MWh of energy storage across Mexico, Costa Rica, and Panama. The full 300MWh deployment is planned for the remainder of 2025 and throughout 2026. All systems will utilize BYD’s advanced lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, which are renowned for their safety, long lifecycle, and efficiency.
