Wpd Solar France is developing a 140.6 MWp solar park in the municipality of Marcy, located in the Nièvre region of France. Spanning an impressive 187 hectares, this project represents a significant contribution to the country’s renewable energy landscape.
140.6 MW France solar park to Feature Agrivoltaics and Battery Storage
The Marcy solar park is a forward-thinking project designed to maximize both energy production and sustainable land use. It will integrate agrivoltaic facilities and battery storage, with development planned in two stages. The first phase will add 80 MW, followed by a second phase contributing 60.6 MW of additional capacity.
A key feature is the agrivoltaic component, which will see a 20 MW section of the park dedicated to sheep grazing, demonstrating a harmonious coexistence between agriculture and energy generation. The project also includes a substantial 30 MW/60 MWh battery storage system. This element is crucial for enhancing grid stability, managing peak loads, and ensuring that the solar energy generated is utilized as efficiently as possible.
France solar park to Power 70,000 Homes Upon Completion
Once fully operational, the solar park is expected to generate 150 GWh of clean electricity annually—enough to power approximately 70,000 homes and significantly reduce carbon emissions. The project is currently in the permitting phase, with plans to submit the application by the end of 2024. If approved, construction is scheduled to begin in 2026 and is anticipated to take around 15 months to complete.
Maurice Kieffer, a project manager at Wpd, remarked, “The development of a solar park of this scale is a significant step forward in our commitment to renewable energy. The integration of agrivoltaic facilities and battery storage demonstrates our innovative approach to maximizing the benefits of solar power.”
