Impressive Poland solar project: 45MW Plant Opens

Voltalia has announced a significant expansion of its renewable energy activities, highlighted by the commissioning of a new solar plant and a strategic push into Poland.

Voltalia’s Strategic Entry into the Polish Market with a Poland solar project

French renewable energy company Voltalia is making a significant entry into the Polish market, marking a key step in its Central and Eastern European expansion. The company has a portfolio of four solar projects planned for the country, totaling an impressive 197 MW.

While developing its Polish assets, Voltalia recently celebrated the start of commercial operations at its 45 MW Clifton solar project. It is important to note that this specific project is located in Dorset, United Kingdom, and serves as a powerful example of the company’s capability to deliver large-scale solar farms. The Clifton project will generate enough clean electricity to power over 20,000 households and help reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 50,000 tonnes annually. The electricity produced will be sold to private buyers under long-term Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (CPPAs).

Speaking on the company’s expansion into Poland, Sébastien Clerc, CEO of Voltalia, said: “We are very pleased to contribute to the growth of renewable energy in Poland by commissioning our first solar power plant in the country. This project is in line with our strategy to develop our activities in Central and Eastern Europe, a region with strong potential for renewable energy. We are proud to support Poland in its energy transition and to contribute to the country’s energy independence.”

Voltalia’s Renewable Energy Journey and the Poland solar project

Voltalia’s ambitions in Central and Eastern Europe are substantial. The company currently has a 1.2 GW renewable energy pipeline in the region at various stages of development: 197 MW under construction, 259 MW in advanced development, and 762 MW in early-stage development.

The company is actively working on 19 solar plants in the region, which will add 1.2 GW of capacity to its portfolio. This is in addition to its 140 MW of currently operational assets, which include 100 MW in Greece and 40 MW in Albania.

Voltalia is an international company focused on renewable energy, operating as both a power producer and a service provider for third-party clients. The company manages the entire project lifecycle, from initial design through the complex solar panel manufacturing process to long-term operation and maintenance. With over 2.7 GW of renewable energy capacity in operation and construction, and a development portfolio totaling 15.8 GW, Voltalia is a major force in the global energy transition.

Poland’s Growing Commitment to Solar Energy and the Poland solar project

Poland’s focus on solar energy is a core element of its strategy to diversify its energy mix and reduce a long-standing dependence on coal. This national energy transition is creating a vibrant market for renewable energy investment. The Polish government has set ambitious targets, aiming for renewables to constitute 23% of the energy mix by 2030.

Solar energy is a cornerstone of this strategy. The country’s solar capacity has seen explosive growth, driven by supportive government policies, the falling costs of solar technology, and a greater understanding of the basics of solar panel manufacturing. This rapid expansion is evident in the numbers, with Poland’s solar capacity reaching 21 GW in 2024 and continuing on a strong growth trajectory. This boom has attracted significant Polish solar investment, with numerous international players entering the market.

For observers in Germany, Poland’s rapid solar development offers valuable insights. The swift transition away from fossil fuels demonstrates how targeted policies can accelerate the Energiewende. Furthermore, as part of an interconnected European grid, Poland’s growing renewable energy supply contributes to regional stability, which benefits neighboring countries, including Germany. This continental shift reinforces the long-term value of clean energy, making it an increasingly relevant topic for homeowners and tenants considering their own energy solutions.

The commissioning of new projects by companies like Voltalia is a significant milestone, reinforcing Poland’s position as a key player in the European renewable energy sector and showcasing the immense potential for Poland’s solar growth.
