Jamaica’s Largest Renewable Energy Tender Launch Announcement
Jamaica is preparing to launch what has been described as the largest renewable energy tender in the Caribbean. According to the Jamaica Gleaner, the tender will seek 300 MW of renewables along with 150 MW of battery storage. Earlier reports indicated a slightly smaller scale of 220 MW of renewable energy and 110 MW of storage.
The Generation Procurement Entity (GPE) has announced this initiative, with the formal auction expected to take place in the third quarter of 2026. The overall procurement process is aimed at helping Jamaica achieve its goal of generating 50% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
In addition to the upcoming tender, Jamaica recently awarded 100 MW of solar capacity in 2024. This new tender is projected to add up to 400 MW of renewable energy capacity, which would significantly contribute to the country’s energy transition efforts.
Current estimates related to the tender may vary, reflecting an evolution in Jamaica’s renewable energy strategy and updating of procurement targets.
