Eni’s Hybrid Plant in Kazakhstan to Combine Solar

Italian energy major Eni is advancing a pioneering energy project in Kazakhstan, constructing a hybrid power plant that integrates solar, wind, and gas technologies. Located in Zhanaozen, a key oil and gas hub in the Mangistau region, this initiative marks a significant step toward enhancing energy security and reducing carbon emissions in a vital industrial area.

A Multifaceted Kazakhstan hybrid power plant Solution

The project, a collaborative effort between Eni and the Kazakh government, is designed to deliver a total capacity of 247 MW. Its innovative design combines three distinct power sources to ensure a stable and reliable electricity supply:

• Solar Power: The first phase of the project, an 80 MW solar farm equipped with 80,000 panels, has already reached operational status.
• Wind Power: A wind farm will be integrated to capture the region’s wind resources.
• Flexible Gas Generation: A gas-fired power plant will provide consistent, flexible power to balance the intermittent nature of renewables, ensuring grid stability.

Construction on the wind and gas components is underway, with the entire hybrid facility expected to be completed and fully operational by the end of the year.

The Mangistau region has historically faced challenges with frequent power shortages, impacting its significant industrial base.
