Kazakhstan Renewable Energy Sector Growth in the First Half of 2025
Kazakhstan’s renewable energy sector contributed 6.8% to the nation’s total electricity production in the first half of 2025, according to the Energy Ministry. This translates to 2.1 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) generated from renewable sources during this period. This progress aligns with the country’s ambitious target of 19 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, as highlighted in a recent report. More insights on Kazakhstan’s renewable energy landscape can be found in this analysis of PowerTech 2025. Currently, Kazakhstan operates 156 renewable energy facilities with a combined capacity of 3,800 MW, demonstrating a significant commitment to expanding its renewable energy infrastructure. Further bolstering this commitment is the planned Altyn Dala Solar Power Station, a 545 MW project set to significantly boost the country’s solar energy capacity. While challenges remain, such as the cancellation of the U.S. “Solar for All” program, which underscores the complexities of global renewable energy development, Kazakhstan’s continued investment in projects like the 545 MW Altyn Dala solar project signals a positive trajectory for the nation’s green energy future.
