Kazakhstan renewable energy projects total 212 MW with seven new initiatives

Kazakhstan Renewable Energy Projects Commissioned

Kazakhstan has commissioned seven renewable energy projects in 2026, with a combined capacity of 212 MW, according to the Ministry of Energy. An additional three projects totaling 33.2 MW are planned for commissioning by the end of the year, which would bring the total to ten projects with a capacity of 245 MW.

The commissioned projects include:

  • 50 MW wind plant by Aspan Energo in the Kostanay region
  • 20 MW solar plant by Stellar Energy in the Mangystau region
  • 22.6 MW solar plant by Altyn Solar Energy in the Kostanay region
  • 20 MW solar plant by Jetisu Terra Power in the Jetisu/Zhetysu region
  • Three wind plants by Gipergoreya in the Karaganda region, with confounding capacity reported as either 100 MW or 20 MW

There is a noted inconsistency concerning the Gipergoreya wind plants; one report lists a total capacity of 100 MW while another states it as 20 MW. However, the Ministry of Energy’s reported total of seven projects and 212 MW remains consistent across sources.

Planned projects yet to be commissioned include:

  • Two 30 MW solar plants by Alkhena in the Kyzylorda region
  • A 3.2 MW small hydropower plant by Tauenergo in the Turkistan region

These renewable energy developments are intended to enhance the country’s energy security, attract investment, create jobs, and increase the share of clean electricity in Kazakhstan’s energy mix.
